2002 – 2012

The University of Victoria partnered with The First Peoples’ Cultural Foundation, a not-for-profit organization to develop FirstVoices – a database for archiving indigenous languages. Language is not just about words but about intonation, accent and context. This project was unique. Young and savvy indigenous youth film their elders speaking their native tongue giving more meaning. They are also able to keep their language private if they so choose.  iD2 used a stakeholder engagement approach at every step of development, for customized lettering, brand colours, overall structure and flow, and in the development of promotional materials.

Work to date includes customizing colouring book graphics so children can see themselves as the graphic, translation of website to French, designing children’s language games, doing strategic planning, extensive photography, creating event advertising and promotion graphics for a large fundraising event at the Delta Point Inn. Communities participating number at over 60 today.  Click here to support this project
